Respecting God’s Name

Today we look at Exodus 20:7, and the topic of misusing God’s name.

What does it mean ‘the name?’
a. Specific sense, referring to a person
b. General sense, the image produced in the mind

Don’t use God’s name in an empty way, anything less than reverential. Even euphemisms are not glorifying to God so let us guard our tongue!

Swearing is treating what is Holy as Common… and is ultimately blasphemy (Heb. 10:32, Is. 8:13). Careless words will be judged (Matt. 12:36-37). Our speech is an indication of what’s inside us (Luke 6:45, James 1:6, Eph 4:29).

The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit deserve our deepest respect (Ps. 99).
