This passage is speaking of spiritual qualities that run as a theme throughout the New Testament… to repent and mourn over your sin.

James 4:8-9, Is. 22:12-13, Joel 2:12

If we don’t deal with our sin, God says we can never be happy.

How people deal with sin:
-Unaware (conscience calls us to be aware, sin has consequences)
-Don’t care (1 John 2:3-4, as a believer, we should continue to FIGHT the battle)
-Obsess
-Mourn Over, repent. Christians should be keenly aware of areas of sin, and grieve (Ps. 51)

Jesus is always here to comfort us and forgive us. He sets us free!

When we realize how our sin is offensive to God and destructive to us and those in our personal world, we will mourn over its presence in our life.
