Today we examine God’s rules and how they apply to the 21st century (Ex. 20). Most people like the law except when it restricts them.
A. We hate the law.
Enlightenment, theological liberalism, relativism, Freudian psychology, Marxism, Nietzsche philosophy, situational ethics all go against God’s law.
Our sinful nature is always in conflict with God’s holiness and His laws. This demonstrates that we are broken. (Rom 7:12, 14). The problem is not the law but my response.
B. We break the law.
Do we really get away with it if we we don’t get caught? We when violate them, we pay the consequences… and the consequences are usually hard to see.
C. We need the law.
The law enforces standards, promotes order, provides protection, grants freedom.
God’s law is the best for us… 1 Cor. 4:5, Heb. 4:13, 1 Pet. 4:5, Ec. 4:5, Rev. 30:12-13.
Matt 22:36-40 is a summary for the Ten Commandments. God’s law makes us conscious of sin and points us to Jesus and His grace and mercy. (Rom. 3:20-22)
