There are many things Abraham’s life teaches us about living by faith. Let’s consider them.
A. It takes time to develop a lifestyle of living by faith. (2 Pet. 3:18)
B. God is patient as we learn to live by faith.
C. Living by faith is learned in day-to-day situations.
D. Living by faith is having the bigger picture… seeing what others cannot see. (2 King 6)
E. Living by faith seldom has quick rewards. (Heb. 11:39)
F. Riches and prosperity are not proof of living by faith.
G. Not living by faith causes problems (Gen. 16)
1. Egypt and Pharaoh (Gen. 12)
2. The problems that developed out of the Hagar situation
a. breakdown of relationship between Hagar and Sarah (16:4b)
b. Abraham and Sarah have marriage problems (16:5)
c. Hagar is mistreated (16:6)
d. They lost a faithful maid (16:6)
e. Ishmael mocks Issac (21:9)
f. Abraham lost a son (21:9)
g. Hagar and Ishmael almost die (21:16)
h. descendants are hostile (25:18)
-still problems today
H. Living by faith brings joy and satisfaction (Gal. 3:9)
I. Having friends that live by faith is a great asset (Lot)
J. Having friends that don’t live by faith is hazardous
K. Living by faith makes you live like a stranger here (Heb. 11)
L. Even in the promised land you have to live by faith (Gen. 12)
Abraham believed God, do we? Do I? (Rom. 4:3)
